I've asked this before but I'm still struggling with the best location to spend 2 nights. We will be taking the Golden Pass down from Zwiesimmer to Montreaux most likely arriving about 3 or 4 in the afternoon.(I haven't looked at the schedule yet). We could spend the night in Montreaux which in that case we would visit Chateau de Chillon that afternoon and Gruyeres the next day (easy access) Time permitting in the afternoon we could head to see Lausanne.
Or.....Stay in Lausanne check into the hotel walk around old town, maybe visit the Olympic Museum and the next day take the train to Montreaux, visit the Chateau and go up to Gruyeres and take the boat back to Lausanne. We head up to Basel from this area.
Vevey: The advantage of staying here is it's smaller, more peaceful and the hotel room maybe a little nicer
Hotels where I'm thinking of staying, all around the same price although the ones in Montreaux are a little more expensive.
Golf Hotel Rene Capt: Montreaux: Lake View
Hotel Splendid: RS recommendation: Lake View
Vevey: Hotel Charlotte: Recommended by trip advisor
Hotel Regina: Lausanne: RS recommendation: Near old town, good reviews but rooms very ordinary
There is also a B&B I found that has a very good price. It has a shared bathroom and check in isn't until 5 pm, which may or may not be a problem.
Thanks for your help
