Hi !
We (2 adults ans 2 kids) will have a flight With Swiss Next SUmmer. Our flight from Montreal to Berlin have a layover in Zurich, We've got 2 options : 1:05 layover or 2:35 layover which one should we choose ? (the price is the same )
I see we did a 1:05 change arriving from USA connecting to Geneva in 2013. We had no problem. Also an inter-europe one in 45 minutes a week later. This was all on Swiss.
With kids I personally would opt for the longer layover. If you have to change planes or terminals an hour layover could be cutting it close.
I would opt for the 2:35 layover. This will give you peace of mind in case your first flight is delayed. It would be stressful to miss your connecting flight, especially with 2 kids. If your first flight arrives on time, you will have the time to stretch your legs, use the restroom, maybe get the kids a quick bite to eat.
Go to the Zurich airport site:
http://www.zurich-airport.com/passengers-and-visitors/arrivals-and-departures/transfers/
Click on the "Documents" and down load for the pdf for "Transfering Passengers".
You will get off at the remote "E" gates building, take the Skymetro train to the main terminal (with sounds of yodeling, cow bells and mooing cows on the PA), go through Shengen passport control, then up to the Shengen flight departures in the "A" and "B" gates area. They give a 25-30 minute estimate to do this. That is my experience as well.
Thanks for your answers. I think we're gonna get the longer layover. Knowing that we only have one hour of layover is gonna stress us too much, And after all, it's only 1:35 more.
there's also a shopping mall just outside the main terminal where you can eat and shop if desired
