We are traveling in October and are mid-priced tourists, fairly fit and in our late 50's. We are struggling with where to stay over.
We would start the day in Milan taking a regional train to Tirano, on our way to catch the Bernina Xpress. We would then take the Glacier Xpress to Zermatt and then 2 regional trains to Basel to catch our river cruise.
Could we travel Milan to Torino and then get on the Bernina Xpress same day or is it better to stay in Torino and start fresh the next day on the Bernina.
We would then need a night prior to boarding the Glacier Xpress, is that when we train trip to Pontresina or Samedan and spend the night there? Recommendations?
We would then find ourselves in Zermatt; has anyone traveled there in the in autumn? We had planned to hike for a full day in conjunction with taking the trams as Rick has discussed. We would love to hear if there is a better plan or just stick with his idea?
We have not travelled much in Switzerland, but are extremely excited for these scenic train adventures!
