Per advice of many, I downloaded the MeteoSwiss App in preparation for our Switzerland vacation. Is there a way to change the language to English? In the settings option, I only see German, French and Italian. Also, any way to change the temperature to F vs C? I assume the "Weather Report" section of this app would be very helpful (which is why I'd like to see it in English). Any recommendations on what other sections of this app you like to view and use? PS. I added Lauterbrunnen to "Your Weather stations", but it looks like there isn't any weather station there (ie no data is showing up) and it looks like I now cannot delete it. I assume Schlithorn is the weather station for the Berner Oberland region (please confirm or correct - then I will add that to my weather station). The defaults on my app are Zurich, Locarno (not going there), Geneve (we'll be in Lausanne). We'll also be in Zermatt .... is the weather station Matterhorn?
The headlines are in English but there is no way to make the deeper content English, so copy & paste to Google Translate if you want to know something specific.
Europe uses C so it’s not going to translate to F for you, as it’s a Swiss app. Get somewhat familiar with the ranges of Celsius for your trip and then just google the conversion if you want to get super specific
Lauterbrunnen absolutely comes up with a daily forecast, as well as all the surrounding areas. They don’t need a weather station in order to give you the forecast and using “Schilthorn” & “Matterhorn” as your weather readings will give you temps and weather up at that altitude, which isn’t helpful for your day to day planning. For Lauterbrunnen, I’d suggest keeping Lauterbrunnen + a higher altitude mountain town like Mürren (temps can vary by 5-10 degrees between them) as well as Schilthorn & Jungfraujoch if you plan to go up there. For Zermatt, just use Zermatt. If you type these places into the magnifying glass search option you get the 8 day forecast + if you scroll down you get more specific readings (all shown in English)
We use the “Sunshine Duration” section a lot. It shows you the predicted amount of sun per hour throughout the day. So for example, if the bar for 12:00 is at 45 and then at 1:00 it shows 15, they are predicting cloud cover to start moving in. Typically when the bar is 30-60, it’s going to be fairly sunny for that specific hour, which is more helpful than a generic “partly sunny” icon for the day, as you have no idea what parts of the day are set to be sunny vs cloudy without the hourly breakdown.
To get rid of a saved location, select “show all locations” and then swipe left on the ones you don’t want for the delete option to appear.
We also cross reference our weather with the Bergfex app, as well as the webcams for each specific spot. Google the location you want + webcam and you’ll find them. They also host a lot of them on the Bergfex app (Lauterbrunnen, Mürren, Schilthorn, Jungfraujoch, Gornergrat, etc etc)
It looks like MeteoSwiss may be updating the app someday...
I like MeteoSwiss, but also use the SwissWeather app. It can be set to English and Fahrenheit.
MeteoSwiss is run by the Swiss government. It’s the most comprehensive & reliable, so having to translate the Celsius is worthwhile to me.
Thank you for this information! Yes, I'll have to brush up on F to C conversion before our trip! I see that I can add my areas of travel to the first set of locations (vs Weekly Forecast section). Thanks also for recommending the Sunshine Duration - it looks like a useful tool!
