I'm driving from Menaggio to Grindelwald on July 15th. Any suggestions on things to see along the way? Hikes, views, fun experiences?
That sounds lovely! I'm just wondering with how great that train ride would be, why the interest in driving? Switzerland's train system is marvelous.
Thanks. I will look into the train system.
Click here for route on ViaMichelin website.
It says 4 hours for 232Km. That is stopping for nothing, I would say allow 6 hours with stops.
That route goes over the Sustenpass, which should be the best bit. The pass is open June to October, you will be OK in July.
The route also goes through the Gotthard tunnel. you can avoid that and go "over the top" via the Gotthard pass. Longer, more driving and lots more breathtaking views.
Things you need to know:
Your car needs a Swiss Autobahn Vignette to pay for tolls (if it doesn't have one already). Cost CHF 40.
If you are planning to rent a car in one country and return it in a different one, that is usually very expensive.
