May trip to Switzerland

Is the month of May usually a busy month in Switzerland? especially the panoramic trains, Glacier Express, Bernina, Gotthard, etc.

May is shoulder season. I can't comment on scenic trains, but quite a bit of the tourist infrastructure in the mountains goes on temporary hiatus. The weather is also genreally not favorable for taking in the scenery.

Imo, May is quieter as it's past ski season, before the busier summer months and school is still in session. There are times when tourists come from other countries so while the general area may be a bit quieter, some of the tourist attractions can still be busy. If you are booking a train which requires a reservation, you can get an idea of demand by availability when you book. May is usually a nice month weather-wise, but we get a bit more rain.

Our most recent 2-week visit was in May as well. Some places in the mountains are closed but enough things are open (restaurants, hotels). It was very nice to travel around at that time when trains were not at maximum capacity. There was some rain, but most days, it was sunny. But that is all dependent on the year.

It wasn't busy in the Lauterbrunnen valley area during our visit from May 22 to May 25 a couple of years ago, nor on the highways from Basel to Interlaken or the highways out to Konstanz from Interlaken through Lucerne.
