Luzern to Zurich to catch international flight - need reservations?

We will be leaving Luzern early in the morning to catch a train to Zurich airport for our flight home. I thought there were frequent trains on that route, but want to confirm a few things. I've read so much lately that some of the info is a bit unclear in my mind.

Do we need reservations? If so, what is the best way to do that? (I plan to buy a half fare card for our family members when we get into Switzerland, and one son will be free).

Is the train station really in the "basement" of the airport?

Thanks for any advice you can share.

I'll be doing this route later in September. You can see the train schedules at sbb.ch. My understanding is that you buy your train tickets from a machine before you board your train. I don't think reservations are necessary. Yes, the train station for the airport is supposed to be in the lower floor of the airport. When you go to the sbb.ch website, enter Luzern as your starting point and Zurich Airport as your end point. I believe trains leave once an hour (direct) and the same is true for those that connect in Zurich HBF.

Excellent! Thank you both for your information. This trip is becoming more real as these final details are being worked out.

yes, the ZRH train station is in a nice little multi-level shopping mall just across a small street from the airport. Looked like a good place to grab some last-minutes souvenirs and perhaps a nosh.

Hopefully you've built enough time into your trip to let you clear all the niceties at the airport. You can count on the trains but not always the air travel. Otherwise, there are several hotels within yodeling distance of the airport including a HIlton with free shuttle service. Also a Radisson Blue I believe.

Any idea of the price of the Luzern to Zurich train ticket just before boarding??

Thanks.
