Luzern Hotels

I am interested in any recommendations for hotels, NOT in the Rick Steves Guidebook, that are 3 or 4 star hotels in Luzern that you may have utilized. We are starting the Best of Switzerland tour on Sept 1, but it is also at the same time as the Luzern Music Festival so hotels are quite busy. We would prefer to stay in Luzern city center and do day trips prior to our tour beginning, but open to nearby hotels accessible by public transit as well. Thank you.

A discerning friend of mine just stayed at Hotel des Balances and enjoyed it.

Hotel Pickwick. Fantastic location - along river promenade in city center. Rooms with old wooden bridge views available. No air conditioning tho - just electric fans in the room. We put our son in a room with a single bed when he decided to join us last minute. We were staying in an Airbnb which had a 2 person limit. He liked it and said he would stay there again. We were there Sept 7 - 11th 2025.

Appreciate the suggestions. Hotel Des Alpes recommended a neighboring hotel, Boutique Hotel Weisses Kreuz, and with all the people in Luzern that weekend we felt very fortunate as we did lots of searching with little availability in the old town at a “reasonable” price for Switzerland. They have ceiling fans, no a/c, and that is great with us. Looking forward to it. Thanks.

I've stayed at this hotel in Lucerne on several occasions and always found it to be very comfortable - https://www.sternluzern.swiss/en/hotel . The rooms were clean and modern, the breakfast was about typical and it's an easy walk to the river or rail station. As I recall, they didn't have A/C but provided a fan on request and that worked fine.

It's not city centre, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. The bus stop is out front to get you into the centre, or it's a beautiful 20 minute walk along the lake. We stayed there late May last year.

We didn’t stay there, but had dinner twice at the Weisses Kreuz and enjoyed it. It was recommended by the person from the TI who led our walking tour.

Edited to correct a typo. TI (Tourist Information Office in the train station).
