Luzern bound

Hi, All,

I am headed to Luzern in 3 weeks time for a weekend away. I have booked the Ibis Budget Hotel (with a cancellation policy) because it was the most affordable option I could find. Has anyone stayed there? Thoughts? I am especially interested in knowing how far it was from Old Town given that it will still be winter, I don't want to stay too far from town though I know that budget doesn't necessarily mean it's close to the action.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for where I can get a good fondue dinner? For that, I'm willing to pay. (Let's not go crazy, but I'm willing to invest upwards of 50 if need be)

Thanks!
Kristen

If you're referring to the Ibis Styles Hotel, it's located here:

It's in the old-city section next to the 360 panoramic painting attraction and the lion monument, about a ten minute walk from the train station.

The Ibis Budget Hotel I have is on the other side of the river on the far end of the Langensandbruecke over the railway tracks entering the station. Its about 1 km from the Kapellbruecke at the start of the old city.
edit- there is a bus stop on the street, stop is about 150 m to the east at Werkhofstrasse. All buses lead to the train station.

Thanks for your responses.

Yes, I read the reviews and was able to look at the maps as far as distance, but wanted some personal perspective rather than distance on a map, etc. Also, I was/am satisfied with what I've read on Trip Advisor (I always check multiple sites for reviews), but wanted to get opinions from those who use this site as well. I just like to be in the know as much as possible.

Thanks!

Haven't stayed at the Ibis but have stayed at Tourist Hotel which I would recommend for location, accommodation and staff. Sits right on river at edge of Old Town- 5 minutes from Chapel Bridge. Rates seem to be comparable to Ibis for what IMO is a better location.

We stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lucerne. It is within walking distance of the train station.
