If anyone can share recommendations for accomodations in Luzern and the Berner Oberland, it would be much appreciated. We will have an active 70 year old and willing and able 11 and 10 year olds. We will also have a car (I will be driving over the border into Germany to drop the car off and take a train back to Zurich to avoid a charge for drop off in a different country). We are planning on five days of our trip in Switzerland, driving in from Austria (starting trip in Munich) and flying out of Zurich during the first two weeks of July. We were thinking 2 nights in Luzern and 3 nights in the Berner Oberland. Thanks in advance!

For the Berner Oberland, I would suggest the Hotel Silberhorn in Lauterbrunnen http://silberhorn.com/ I suggest this hotel in consideration of two things 1) your active 70 year old and 2) free parking for your car. This hotel is about 500' from the Lauterbrunnen train station. We have stayed in this hotel and enjoyed it immensely. We are seniors as well. The restaurant is likely the best in the area and in the morning, there are lots of seniors enjoying their breakfast and the sunrise in the large restaurant. Yes, we luckily saw a sunrise each morning of our stay. Easy access to both sides of the valley from the nearby train station and, the gondola up to Grutshalp (next to Muerren).
I can't agree more about recommending the Hotel Silberhorn. We stayed there in 2012 and are going back again this July...great facility, the staff is terrific and the restaurant equally as good.
