Luzern and Interloken

I find all of your suggestions extremely useful.

We are two 71 year olds with some walking and biking experience. We leave in a few weeks and we will have two nights in both Luzern and then Interloken.

We plan to explore Luzern the day we arrive and then try to fit in mountain excursions the next day. What sites should we attempt to get to and in what order for both days?

Our next day we plan to travel by train to Interloken. Should I book a tour guide to get us around for the day and a half while we are there or are there sights we can do ourselves and feel like we have experiences the area? In other words what should we do the day we arrive, and then the following full day.

I also need help know which train or transport to use while in both cities.

Thank you for any insight you can provide. Debbie

From Luzern I recommend these two excursions weather permitting:

You should try to stay in either Lauterbrunnen or Murren or Wengen I stead of Interlaken.
If you stay in this area I recommend these excursions weather permitting that you don't need a guide to go to:

Recommendations depend on what time of year that you are going.

Debbie, not a lot of responses yet so I'll throw in a couple of comments. I think the choice of mountains and when to go is dependent on the weather any particular day. And the weather can be different up top versus down below. And it can change on the time it takes you to get up there. So, be flexible and, assuming you're at a hotel, ask their guidance. They are likely monitoring the weather up top. As I recall, Luzern hotels usually provide you a visitor's pass for city buses and the tram for your time there. Other than the mountains, I think a cruise on the lake is worth doing. The Lion Monument is usually the main sight tourists go to see.

Interlaken - I cant see any value in a guide to show you around town. It's pretty normal town, with the main attractions being outside of town. As said, it's better to stay up the valley to actually be in the mountains.
