Two of us are heading from Lutry to Bern by train on Monday, July 9th and we're wondering what would be a good way to spend the day. Head to Neuchatel? Gruyeres? Fribourg? We enjoy walking, hiking, exploring on foot but we would need to leave our carry-on baggage at whatever train station we would stop at. Any suggestions would be welcome.
At the next railway station (Pully), you can experience an unusual vending machine: http://www.toutcru.ch/home#contact.
I've not been to Neufchatel, but either Gruyeres or Fribourg would make for interesting stops. I have not been to either in many years, but will be going back to Fribourg in June. I hope to fit Gruyeres in.
This site shows the services at train stations, and looking under "mobility" they list baggage storage: https://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services.html.
To get to Gruyeres, I believe you would take a train to Bulle, which has luggage storage, then a bus to Gruyeres. I think that leaves you near the cheese demonstrations. From there, there a shuttle bus or a 15 minute walk up to the old town of Gruyeres and the castle. This is a website of the Gruyeres area: https://www.la-gruyere.ch/en/
Fribourg is more direct. the baggage storage I believe is listed under the "Fribourg Station" option, then under "all services." It is a medieval city with the older , German speaking part of town--the Base Ville, and the newer French speaking part of town--the Haute Ville ,making an interesting contrast between old and new. You could easily spend a day exploring the sights there. Then it is about a 20 minute train ride to Bern.
