Lutry as a base

Hello—we are staying in Lutry for 3 nights in mid-September and will have about 3 full daysto explore the area. I was hoping for advice on how to schedule out the days. We would like to take a walk through the Lavaux vineyards, visit Chateau de Chillon/Montreaux (half day max), Vevey and Gruyere. We don’t want this to feel too rushed. Is there an efficient but relaxed way to hit all these spots and if so, how would you plan the days? What would you skip (or add)?

We will arrive in Lutry around noon on the first day and will not have access to a car.

Any advice on “hidden gems” in the region would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks very much!

Lutry is a very good base. For the exploration of the Lavaux vineyards, the "Lavaux express" sightseeing petit train (a sort of little train on wheels, don't know the English name of that) leaves from Lutry and snakes through the vineyards, a very beautiful, relaxing and efficient way to see them. You can walk as well, of course.
Chillon is easily reached by train from Lutry, and takes about two hours to visit properly. It's surprisingly large, with lots of stairs - don't do it the same day as a vineyard walk. From Chillon, you can then hop back on the 201 trolleybus to Montreux or walk back along the beautiful lakefront promenade (2 miles, 45 min), then sail on a CGN ferry back to Lutry (check the CGN - Compagnie Générale de Navigation - website for timetables). Or, if you feel like it, you could take the train or the 201 bus from Montreux to Vevey, and visit Vevet that same day - it would be a full day, but quite feasible still.
Montreux itself leaves me cold except the aforementioned lakefront promenade.
I have never been to Gruyere so cannot advise.
