Luggage Service from Lucern to Zermatt

Hi Everyone,

We are travelling vie train grom Lucernt o Zermatt and we have 2 kids I know its several change in trains and we are looking at the option of getting luggage service (door to door)from Lucern (hotel) to Zermatt (hotel). I've never used such service and was wondering if its safe at all and would luggages get lost?
I looked at the sbb site but am trying to understand it express means same day service?I would love to hear personal experience or feedback so I can understand the system a little better

Thanks in advance guys!

SBB will show you the fastest connections, but you don't need to take them. You can take any train along the way, so if you miss one, there will be another train along relatively soon. You can also see the alternate trains at www.sbb.ch/en, by clicking on the "advanced search" button, then scroll down and specify a longer connection time. If you choose a minimum 10 minute connection time. You'll see departures on the even hours from Luzern (like 8:00 am, 10:00 am, etc) giving a 34 minute connection at Bern from Track 3 to Track 6, then an 11 minute connection at Visp from Track 7 to Track 3. If you missed that one, there is another train to Zermatt in 27 minutes. I think I'd opt for that rather than paying big bucks for express luggage service.

Yes, you can send your luggage ahead to Zermatt and then pick it up at the station when you arrive. However, you must send it early so that it will be there when you arrive...early as in a day or two ahead. The luggage transfer service has changed, but we've used it in the past with great success. Have a look here:

As you've found, the only same-day delivery service option now is the Door-to-Door Express version. The Swiss Railways are very organized. I experienced the service when traveling with a group and would trust them at least as much as any UPS or FedEx here at home. It's obviously a better value for larger groups than small ones. You pay the two lump-sum fees plus the fee per bag:

Flat rate door to door charge: 40

Flat rate for express shipping: 30

Luggage item: 12 x number of bags (x 4 = 48)

Total of 118 CHF for 4 bags, or 142 for 6 bags, etc.
