Can anyone tell me a good place to store luggage in Milan, either by train station or airport. We are flying into Milan and traveling by train to Switzerland for 8 or 9 days and then coming back to Milan and flying to Barcelona for a cruise. Want to leave luggage for cruise in Milan so we do not have to lug it to Switzerland. Also our flight will arrive at 9:05 am is it possible to get to the train station by 11:30 am?
The airport about an hour from Milan so storing luggage at the airport may not be appropriate. And it really doesn't make much sense to travel to Switzerland and return to Milan to fly to Barcelona. Don't know what your Switzerland plans are location wise but I would encourage you to continue to Barcelona from Switzerland. Wasting a lot of time and money returning to Milan.
You may want to rethink you luggage planning. How much extra luggage do you anticipate? When we do a cruise we only add one carry-on size rolling for the two of us in addition to our regular luggage.
Depending on immigration flow -- number of planes arriving at the same time, etc., you sould be able to clear immigration is 90 minutes or less and then the train from the airport to the Centrale station in Milan. If trying to connect to a train in Milan you might allow an extra hour.
If we knew more of your travel details, we might be able to provide better answers.
I would actually look for a luggage storage at the airport (maybe ask in the Itally forum). Milan Malpensa is north of Milan, and the Italians joke that it was build for the Swiss, as it is halfway between Milan and Switzerland. So to travel to Switzerland you do not need to travel South to Milan first.
Let me explain why we are flying into Milan. We fly American on standby and this way has plenty of seats so we have choose to fly into Milan and take the train to Zermatt and stay there maybe 3 days giving us 2 full days there and then traveling to the OB area and staying there for 5 days for so and then on to Geneva. We have changed to flying out of Geneva for our flight to Barcelona so we do not have to go back to Milan. Not going to worry about luggage storage now just going to make it work. We were just trying to take small carry on luggage for our Switzerland portion so we do not have to lug around cruise luggage.
We are planning on leaving here on 8/27 or 8/28 so we can enjoy some time in Switzerland and then our cruise leaves on 9/8 out of Barcelona so we plan on flying a couple of days before to spend some time there before the cruise so that gives us about 9 to 10 days in Switzerland. Planning on Zermatt and then the OB area and then going to Geneva and flying to Barcelona from there. Any suggestions for our itinerary? Just now trying to plan all this so working out all the details. Thank you so much for your help!
I just flew GVA to BCN last Saturday. Since we were flying multicity on Swiss, we had to fly GVA to MUC to BCN. Only direct flights are on EasyJet. Be aware of all their luggage fees.
it's not the most secure thing in the world but most hotels have a room in the back where they can store luggage ...
Have you considered using one of the companies that ship luggage and send the cruise suitcase directly to the ship? It may not be cheap but luggage storage at airports isn't either based on my last trip thru Amsterdam.
If you fly in to Milan and your next stop is Zermatt what you should do is take the bus from Malpensa to Domodossola. Do not travel south to Milan to again go north (passing close to the airport) on the way to Switzerland.
Info on that bus is here:

Then travel to Zermatt form there. You will find out that travelling with luggage on Swiss train is something lots of people. so do not worry to much about it. But if you want you can send your luggage ahead to Geneva Airport at either Brig or Visp when you enter the country.
