Hello all, My hubby and I have travel plans for next September(2024) Rhine River cruise ending in Basel. Long travel day from there to Varenna on Lake Como but we have several days there to rest up. We will train from Basel to Lugano by train. This is where I need help. Several years ago we went to Lugano from Menaggio by bus but then returned to Lake Como via boat on Lake Lugano to a port which I think must have been Porlezza. It was a very short bus ride from there to Menaggio. I have looked at the ferry schedules on Lake Lugano and have checked with the visitor bureau and it appears that is no longer an option. Does anyone have knowledge of this means of travel? I know there is a bus directly from Lugano to Menaggio but the boat ride on Lake Lugano was so much more scenic and enjoyable.

September 2024 is ages away. You will have to wait till the Lake Lugano company publishes its summer schedules.
However, if you want an interesting way of getting to Varenna, have you though of going via Chur- Tirano? The Bernina railway is one of the most scenic railways in Europe.
