Lugano/Ticino

I am traveling to Lugano and have a 'saver day pass' for switzerland. Any suggestions? we are looking to go to Ticino and Valle Versaca. Not for sure what is the best way, or what is the best option. We are planning to do hiking and enjoy the views. The pass is good for trains boats and more.

Ticino is the name for the entire region in which Lugano is located.

To get to the Valle Verzasca, you can take the train to Locarno and then a postbus up the valley. I made that trip twice back in the 1980s, and it's a very pretty trip. I can't tell you anything about the hiking possibilities, however.

Check the weather forecast so you are properly attired. It can be cool/overcast/wet up that valley.

I doubt you will be able to do a Swiss day pass justice just in Ticino, and getting anywhere else will take too long.
I suggest the three castles in Bellinzona. The castles (Castelgrande, Montebello and Sasso Corbaro) are a UNESCO world heritage site.

Bellinzona is the capital of the canton (state) of Ticino, but is smaller than Lugano.
