Is it worth a week, esp. if we take daytrips in the general area? If so, what airport would one use? (I expect it might unfortunately be Mila.
No way it is not all that great kind of superficial too expensive no bang for your buck. But if you got free or inexpensive lodging go for it
We spent a week there last October. Lovely weather, easy-going city, with day trip potential to Val Verzasca, the Centovalli Railroad to Domodossola, cruise on the lake, etc. Locarno on Lago Maggiore is only an hour away by train.
Milano is the closest major airport.
There are more stunning places in Switzerland. We have been to many and chose Lugano to check it out. It was fine but we are unlikely to return.
I agree with Laurel and Artificial Intelligence. I was there once and found no reason to return. There's just too many other truly spectacular places in Switzerland.
(I expect it might unfortunately be Mila.
Why is that unfortunate? There is a direct train from Milan Malpensa airport to Lugano once per hour.
Airport sucks.
Thanks, folks. Glad to get negative advice instead of faux positive. Lugano is now off my list!
