I will Lugano first week of August. Some of the hotels don't seem to have AC. Will get uncomfortable in the night time (we will be touring the city in the morning and hence don't care as much) if I just have fan or does it cool off with windows open due to the lake?

It's hard to guess what the temperature will be... Lugano is small enough to cool down at night, but can get really hot in the day. It will depend on the building's ability to cool down: my tip would be to ask for a room that is NOT at the top floor. I suffered in a top-floor room like that with small windows in Luzern three weeks ago.

Hard to say when u Ck in ask for the coolest room. Lower floor, shady side.
