I am trying to determine the better months to visit Lugano and the Berner Oberland Area. I know very little about various tourist options for a one week visit in Lugano. I am seeking comparisons (information/suggestions) for May and/or of June to Lugano.
I plan to visit the Berner Oberland Area for a week either before or after Lugano, With the changes of B.O. pass for 2026, is the Jungfrau pass a better option? Are some lifts or pass inclusions closed in May? This may impact/ influence our visit for either May or June.
Our group is 4 adults (2 rooms 2 people per room) and also would like hotel suggestions for Lugano and Wengen (because the Grutsalp lift is under repair)
Some lifts are still closed in early June, so I'd suggest being in the BO after Lugano. You will love the Alps, and no one is ever ready to leave. Have a great trip!
With the changes of B.O. pass for 2026, is the Jungfrau pass a better option?
The Berner Oberland is a very big area (mountainous area of the canton of Bern) and the Berner Oberland Pass covers that and more. There are so many more mountain excursions covered, many of them are a lot less busy/touristy. The Jungfrau Region is an area within the Berner Oberland and the pass covers a smaller area, so the question is how much do you want to explore the larger area? Which mountains do you most wish to see? This will help you to decide which pass to buy.
Season start in the Bernese Oberland is May 23. So most cable cars will be open. But coming early June would be better, as not all trails open immediately at the start of the season.
Wengen Ken; my dates are finally determined, I will be in Wengen second week of May. With some lifts still closed is it even worthwhile to buy a Berner Oberland Pass or the Jungfrau pass. Will my half fare card be a better ticket option for each of these three excursions: Jungfraujoch, Schilthorn, and First from Wengen? I appreciate you sharing your vast knowledge of Switzerland, thank you
