Lucerne vs Geneva

we are in early planning phase of a 2025 Northern Italy / Switzerland trip as a family of 4 (kids age 10 / 12). Planning to fly into Milan and spend some time in the Lakes region before taking a train to Lauterbrunnen for 4 nights hiking and sight seeing.
I want to experience a different part of Switzerland for 2-3 nights before flying back to the states. Initially have been thinking about Lucerne, and then flying back via Zurich, but I am wondering if that will be more of the same? Perhaps Geneva may be a bit more of a contrast to the Bernese Oberland from a cultural and scenic perspective. But I trust Rick and he doesn't even mention Geneva in the book, so I thought i would get some feedback.

Luzern is not the same as the Berner Oberland, but it is similar. If you went to Lausanne or Montreux (instead of Geneva) you would get the cultural and scenic contrast you are looking for while still being in an area that is interesting to explore.

Ditto the last post. If a change is what you want, go to the French part of Switzerland, not another German city. But Lausanne is 100x better than Geneva.
