Lucerne to Zurich for the day?

Hi all,

My wife and I are in Lucerne for 3 days in November and was thinking of catching the train to Zurich for the day.

Is this a worthwhile venture and if so, when is the best time to buy the train tickets?

There is really no advantage to buying in advance. 48 chf pp round trip. If there is something particular in Zurich you want to see, check if there is a RailAway offer available. Example: 10% discount on rt rail, local transit and admission ticket to the Kunsthaus art gallery. You can buy the tickets at the train station in Luzern.
