If you can live with a nonrefundable ticket, then yes, buying in advance will save money. Will you have a Swiss Half Fare Card or Swiss Travel Pass at the time of travel?

If it is valid on your day of travel, that will give you free travel to the Austrian border. You can buy tickets at OeBB.at/en by putting in that you have a Swiss GA card. Scroll down on the passenger information until you see "SBB General Abo 2-Klasse". You actually save very little with a nonrefundable Sparschiene ticket. Example: Sept 10, a 2nd class Sparschiene ticket is 54.90 EUR, whereas a standard fully flexible ticket with the Swiss Travel Pass is 72.20 EUR. A seat reservation is 3 EUR extra.

If you will have a Swiss Travel Pass you do not need to book anything for travel within Switzerland. So for Murren to Lucerne you just hop on the trains that get you there.

For the trip Lucerne - Salzburg the cheapest options is probably going to be to book Buchs - Salzburg on www.oebb.at, and use the STP to get from Lucerne to Buchs.

So look up first Lucerne - Salzburg on www.oebb.at, and look at the train details. The usual route is Lucerne - Zurich - Salzburg. Take a note when the Zurich - Salsburg passes through Buchs, and then book Buchs - Salzburg on the same train.
