My husband and I want to travel from Lucerne to Mt Rigi. What is the most cost effective way to do this, and what should we plan to do? We love hiking, and have planned a whole day to explore on and around Mt Rigi. We will likely not have a Swiss Pass, as we will only be in Switzerland a few days.
Mt Rigi has it's own site where you can buy tickets and get an overview on how to get there from Luzern

Thank you! We are avid hikers, and would love to hike up Mt Rigi, possibly from Vitznau. And then take the cable car back down to Weggis (we don't want to miss that experience either!) Has anyone done this and can give us some pointers? How long it will take, etc? Is there a one-way ticket we can purchase for ride back down in the cable car?
I took the cable car and train from Weggis to Rigi and walked back down. The trails are well maintained and mostly paved as I recall.
There are hiking trails all over Rigi. We stayed at Rigi Kaltbad and did several hikes from there.
Here are many possibilities from the Rigi website:

You can buy the segments of the trip individually. For example, we arrived ar Rigi Kaltbad on the train from Arth-Goldau, and then took the cable car down to Weggis, each purchased on the spot.
Thank you all for your help!
