Going from Lucerne to Milan airport. Would really love to take the Bernina Express. From the research I have done looks like I would have to take a train to Chur then the Bernina from Chur to Tirano, then take a train from Tirano to Milan. Can someone double check for me that this is indeed the best route. I know it will make our trip to the airport a little longer but I am hoping it is worth it!

If you want to take the Bernina Express you indeed have to go to Chur; that is the scenic longer way.
Also you do not have to take the actual Bernina Express tourist train which only runs twice a day at 8:32 and 13:30; you can also take the regular more frequent regional trains that run on the same tracks as the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano and get the same views sitting on the right side. of the train.

This is going to take you 11 to 12 hours to get to Malpensa. There are other scenic trains that will get you there quicker.
