Hello fellow travelers! We have 2 additional nights and wondering whether Zürich or Lucerne would be the best bet. Coming down from the Bener Oberland area. Thank you!!!!

Definitely Lucerne. More touristy, but for good reason. The old town is lovely, and nearby Mt Pilatus is a beautiful 1/2-day excursion in clear weather.

I agree with balso, definitely Lucerne. You could always pop over to Zurich for a few hours if you’d like to see it. It’s just 40 minutes on the train from Lucerne to the Zurich main station. Bahnhofstrasse, the main shopping street, is right outside the train station. And it’s an easy walk to the old town.

Zurich is nice enough. But it's a big cosmopolitan city with a business orientation and just not as pretty as Luzern. Because of its smaller size, the beautiful cruise-able lake setting, the surrounding easily accessible mountains, Luzern is the clear choice. Given that you can get to the Zurich airport by train from Luzern in 1.25 hours, its ideal.
