Lucerne iteneries

Hi, I will be on a business trip in munich. I am planning to go to Switzerland on one of the days in early august before going back to munich. Below are my iteneries:

Day 1: Take a train from munich to Lucerne and do some sightseeing and shopping in lucerne
Day 2: Getting to Mt Rigi via boat and cable car up to Kaltbad
Day 3: Travel to Grindelwald to ride the Grindelwald gondola cable car
Day 4: travel back to munich

I read that the Rigi classic round trip cost CHF 113. The cable ride at Grindelwald cost CHF 58. The web mention that cable rides are discounted with the Swiss pass. Should I get the Swiss pass?

razak,

A few thoughts on your proposed Itinerary.....

  • Day 1 - It will take about 5 - 6 hours to travel from Munich to Lucerne, so your time for "sightseeing and shopping" will be somewhat limited. The Museum of Transport is well worth seeing, but I'm not sure you'll have time.
  • Day 2 - This will provide some information on how to get there - http://www.rigi.ch/Travel-Information/Getting-there
  • Day 3 - Travel to and from Grindelwald will be about 2.5 hours in each direction.
  • Day 4 - Again, about five hours for the trip back to Munich. Some of the routes that use a Bus for one segment are a bit faster than by train.

You'll have to do the calculations regarding the Swiss Pass, Half Fare card or other options. For the limited trips you're making, I'm not sure that a Pass will be cost effective. Have a look at this website as it may help to make the decision.....

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the information. I am planning to take an early train from munich so I'll probably reach in the afternoon. since I'm not going to travel around much, I'll probably not take up the Swiss pass.

NO, I would definitely stay in Lucerne! Both cities have their "charms", but I really like the beauty, history and "character" of Lucerne.
