We are thinking of taking a trip to lucerne in August 2015.... I am so excited! We are wanting to order your book but I noticed that you were planning another trip to Switzerland this year and was wondering if you are going to write another book on Switzerland? We are thinking of making lucerne a "base" and do day trips from there. Do you have a recommendation for a bed and breakfast in lucerne? Thanks for your help
mary,
The Switzerland guidebook was updated this year so the information will be current. It likely won't be updated for 2015, so there's no reason to wait in buying a copy.
Whether to use Lucerne as a "base" will depend on what you want to see in Switzerland. Could you provide a bit more information?
The guidebook has lots of listings for reliable accommodations in Lucerne (and elsewhere).
Good luck with your planning!
We stayed at the Goldener Stern two different times. It is a small hotel, not a B and B, just a short walk from train station. Very clean. Think small elevator - one of us went up, then the luggage went up, then the other person arrived. Good breakfast. We stayed several nights each trip and spent time walking around town. Each time we also took local transport to go up to a different mountain. Have fun.
Hotel Alpha was well priced & clean and 10 min walk from train station
in nice neighborhood-stayed there in June
Thanks, Ken, et al.
mary,
Another vote for Hotel Goldener Stern (although it seems to be just called "Stern Hotel" now). It's an easy walk from the station, although with luggage I'd suggest using a Taxi. It's also an easy (10 minute or so) walk to the river and all the sights and restaurants in that area, and of course the incredible Chapel Bridge. I found my room very comfortable and as mentioned the breakfasts were good, as is the food in the restaurant.
