We will be flying from the US, and our first stop will be two days/nights in Lucerne. Rick’s hotel suggestions are predominantly sold out for our dates, mostly because we are also looking for a larger (king size) bedroom after our long flight. Any suggestions between Hotel Balances or Art Deco Montana (which is a farther walk from train station)? Or other hotels in the city beyond Rick’s book? Thank you.
Lots of hotels in Luzern. They are all listed and bookable from the official city tourist website: http://www.luzern.com/en/hotels-accommodation
We liked this modest hotel, Drei Koenige. Wonderful breakfast. Maybe 1/2 -3/4 miles from train station. https://www.drei-koenige.ch/de
Take a look at the Ameron Hotel Flora:

The room size is not indicated in the description, but you could email and ask.. We have not stayed there but it would have been my choice for this summer's trip ( we decided to skip Luzern this time).
I've stayed at Hotel Stern on visits to Lucerne and would certainly recommend it. The rooms are clean and comfortable and it's an easy walk from the station (although if you have a lot of luggage, a Taxi would be a good idea).
I don't believe they have A/C but I've always managed fine with just a fan.
We just checked out of the Ameron Hotel Flora on Monday morning. We found it to be exceptionally clean, relatively quiet, and very convenient to the train station and old town. We had a room with two singles pushed together (essentially a king). The hotel is “air conditioned”, however not tonehat you might expect in the US. It was helpful, but we found that most nights we just opened the windows and were more comfortable. They have a number of different room categories and suggest that you choose one on the larger size if you want more room. We had a “comfort deluxe double” and it was fine for us albeit a bit small by US standards.
If returning to Luzern, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Thank you to all who replied.
