Whatever you choose, check opening and availability on those dates. Both 25th and 26th December are public holidays.
Chris is absolutely correct. But if I had the choice I'd probably choose Pilatus with boat ride and gondola.
Double check openings. While we have not been in Switzerland over the holidays we have been in England, Italy, and Spain and those countries really shut down over the 25th and 26th. Very little is open. I would think that Mt. Rigi would be cold and snowy at that time.
So after researching Pilatus, I noticed they have a fondue special and are opened on Christmas.
Can someone tell me if they think these prices include round trip plus fondue from Kriens, and is the Swiss Travel Pass included in the discounted prices. It does not specify the Travel Pass and not sure what GA means. Does return trip mean both ways?
INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE • return trip Kriens – Krienseregg or Kriens – Pilatus Kulm • a portion cheese fondue and a small mixed salad
PRICES PER PERSON KRIENSEREGG / PILATUS KULM Adults CHF 45.00 / CHF 71.00
with Half-fare card/GA or children 6 – 16 years CHF 40.00 / CHF 53.00
with annual ticket or children with SBB-Junior card CHF 35.00 / CHF 35.00
mherwatt, GA = General Abonement, which as an annual ticket for the whole of Switzerland, which residents can buy. This has the same coverage as your Swiss Travel Pass.
Return = There and back again, Single = one way only. This is standard British-English terminology.
The prices include all travel from Kriens and back again. You would need to get a bus from wherever you are staying in Luzern to Kriens, and back again. This would be covered by a Swiss Pass.
This "map" explains the geography round Luzern and Pilatus: https://www.alpensicht.com/images/Gold_Rundfahrt-2011_0.jpg
Ok, got it. Thanks.
With the Swiss Pass, I thought I read that the bus/train to Pilatis trip is free. So maybe we can just buy the fondue or lunch on our own.
With the Swiss pass, that's the line:
with Half-fare card/GA or children 6 – 16 years CHF 40.00 / CHF 53.00
Not sure why 2 prices are quoted, no 1st/2nd class on a cable car or a bus.
Ok, so I'm guessing the meal is really the cost because the trains are technically free with a Swiss Pass even though they say included with the package deal. Is that how you read it?
