Hi all,
We have just booked to be in Lucerne April 13 leaving the 17th evening to stay in hotel in Zurich 1 night before flight. This comes after an 11 day trip to Italy. Arriving in Chur on Bernina. On advice of you guys, we have decided to stay in Lucerne for 4 nights. I’ll start by saying we know NOTHING about train travel and are looking forward to that part. This will give us 4 full days in Lucerne area. I’d love to do the Golden trip to Pilatus but I can’t seem to figure out whether that is an option in mid April. We will take any advice on what to do. We like to be on the go and scenery is at the top of our list. I will also take any advice on what else we should plan as well as whether we should be looking into the Swiss travel pass or half fare card. We do not mind spending time on trains for day trips at all even if it means a couple of hours each way. Thanks in advance.

While in Luzern , a favorite day trip for me is the lake steamer to Vitznau , and the rack railway from the quai to the top of Rigi Mountain , Pick up the lake steamer at the Quai next to the Hauptbahnhof ( main train station ) and about 90 minutes on the boat to Vitznau to pick up th mountain train ( all covered by the Swiss travel pass ) This video is a great armchair journey , and the section of interest starts at 21:00 https://youtu.be/Xb9vTT2Nqi8?si=PQzq7zmrNQoUSagb

I have done a few Searches that should have helpful info. Your question is a frequent one. If your flight isn't early morning, just stay in Lucerne the night before. The Swiss rail system is world class and easy to use.

Thankyou. Flight is at 10 am so we figured we would just do a full day then take train over to zurich for the night to make the morning easier vs having to wake up super early.
