Lucerne and Lauterbrunnen

We are visiting in April. Any suggestions for hotels in these locations? Also we will have a car. Is it an easy drive from Zurich airport to Lucerne?

Tish,

For hotels you could try....

Is there a specific reason you're using a rental car? Switzerland has an excellent rail network and that's usually the quickest and most efficient method of travel, and no extra costs for parking. Driving in an unfamiliar environment right after a long international flight is not recommended, a practice which has been compared to "DUI".

The centre of Luzern (local spelling) is pedestrianised - no cars. Most hotels in the centre will not have parking. Parking will be outside the centre and will cost.
For example, the hotel Ken recommends (Stern) says:

Parking
The Hotel STERN Luzern has no private parking. The nearest public parking is just across the street called «Kesselturm». The price is CHF 25 per day if you pay in advance after parking and select a day ticket at the machine.

Zürich airport is about 70 Km from Luzern, so on a good day it will take just over 1 hour. But, depending on time if day, the trafic getting round Zürich could be bad and it could take longer.

We flew into Zurich and drove very easily to Lucerne. We stayed at Hotel Bellevue. There are two there. We stayed at the one on the lake not up the mountain. It was an easy walk into town and they had free car parking. They had bikes as well if you wanted to bike into town. No reason to take the car in as you cannot park anywhere.

Thanks Ken, Chris and Aly for your replies and tips! Very helpful. Not to worry Ken, we are arriving from Seville, so will not be driving 'DUI' ; )
