We will be in Lucerne for two days in March prior to a Viking river trip (from Basel). Can someone let me know which activities in Lucerne need to be booked in advance, and which we can just purchase on the day? Many thanks.
I can’t think of anything in Lucerne that needs to be booked ahead of time.
I don't think any activities need advanced booking. However, make sure you do the boat tour. It's not cheap but worth it.
If you want to take a day trip to Mt Rigi, along with the boat ride to/from Vitznau, buy a Saver Day Pass for that day now. That will save a lot.
We also will be in Lucerne for 1 day in beginning of June 2026 from a river cruise. We were told to take the train from Basel to Lucerne and store our luggage. We have about 6 good hours to explore before taking the train from Lucerne to Zurich. Any good ideas of places to explore? How far is the train for a boat tour of lake lucerne?
Boat docks are right outside the train station.
Right now, you can buy a 2nd class Saver Day Pass for a day in June for 52 CHF per person. That would cover the train from Basel to Luzern, boat rides on the lake, Rigi Bahn to the mountain top, return to Luzern, train to Zurich.
