My adult daughter and I are planning to spend 1 day (arrive here in the morning by train) and night in Lucerne during 2nd week in May. Tentative plans are to visit Mt. Pilatus in the morning, visit around town, then in the evening go to original Swiss folklore show at Stadtkeller, which I read about in one of Swiss tourism sites and assume the show is in the evening. Does any of you think this is a good plan? or what would be the best itinerary for one day/night here?
And some other questions I have are:
1) Is top of Mt. Pilatus still snow-covered in May as I see in pictures?
2) as a half-day excursion, is any other "top" of mountain better than others if I want to visit only one from Lucerne?
3) Has anyone seen the Swiss folklore show? Recommend it?
In Rick's guide there is a suggested walking tour of the city, it's a big loop that starts and ends at the train station and goes down one side of the river and up the other. It takes an hour or two and is quite nice.
I saw the Swiss folklore show at the Stadtkeller in Lucerne a long time ago (17 years to be exact). The food was quite good for that sort of show and the entertainment was really good. You can check current reviews on TA, where it gets a pretty good rating so I guess it's still worth seeing. You have to eat anyway and it's quite entertaining so, yes I would recommend it.
Also I highly recommend the trip up Mt Pilatus, it was exhilarating. Not sure about being snow covered in May, it was in early September when I went. Since much of the snow doesn't melt until mid-summer (if at all), then it probably will be.
Thank you all for replying and your suggestions.
