Lucern weather in early December

Hello, thinking of adding a few days to a trip to Stuttgart to visit Lucern. How is the snow the first week of December? We won’t be skiing. But would like to see as much of the scenery as possible. I know snow levels will impact hiking or other outdoor activities. Just curious how to plan since iwe’ll be there the first week in December.

Thanks in advance!

Very difficult to predict. On January 26, I took a boat ride to Vitznau and rode the Rigibahn to the summit. Other than being breezy and rainy on the summit, a very pleasant day.

One cloudy December day , my daughter and I took the boat to Vitnau and cogwheel train to Mt Rigi. As the train climbed, the fog became absolutely no-visibility thick. I'm thinking, oh,well, at the summit, we will just take the train back down. Then- and the entire train gasped- we arose above the clouds to a spectacular blue sky and fresh powdery snow. It was incredible! I can't guarantee that, obviously, but check the level of cloud cover and you may have a similar experience. Good luck!

I've had two December vacations in Luzern. There was no snow in the city but some in the surrounding mountains. Mostly it was foggy at the lake, and temps between 1-8 degrees C. I also had a drizzly chlly day and a beautiful sunny day.

Early december there is unlikely going to be snow on the ground in Luzern. It will likely be dark, overcast or foggy, and generally miserable weather wise.

Is there something specific you have to see in Lucerne? Because that's not really close to Stuttgart. Driving times are going to be fairly long with winter weather and it's not a straight shot by train either. Unless there's a (rare) clear day you won't see much of the mountains. Also remember, daylight at that time is less than 8 hours, even less in the mountain valleys. And while the last couple years have been relatively snow free, this year is promising to be different. You may just want to stay on the north side of the Alps; someplace like Basel or Lindau. Or you could fly into Geneva.

You can access a live feed camera from Lucerne on youtube.
