Lucern to Interlaken OST - PE trains not covered in BO pass

Hi, please excuse me if this question is already covered somewhere else.

I'm getting familiarized with the SBB website before a trip in October and plan to get the Bernese Oberland Pass. I understand it won't cover Zurich airport to Lucern which is fine. I'm NOT getting the Half Fare card.

Question. When I depart Lucern for Interlaken OST, I'm only seeing PE (Panorama Express) trains in the SBB website for this trip but I understand the PE trains aren't covered in the BO pass. So I'm utterly confused. What other type of train should I be looking for, which will be covered in the BO pass?

The pass is valid on the trains but optional reservations are at normal price - and for Luzern - Interlaken they are optional in the sense that you don't really need them at all, especially at the rip off prices they charge.

The pass is also valid on the Golden Pass trains from Interlaken to Montreux but in this case reservations are a good idea because the direct cars can get full see https://www.berneseoberlandpass.ch/public-transport/mob-goldenpass/

the list of what is free (ie paid for with the pass) https://www.berneseoberlandpass.ch/public-transport/ Jungfraujoch is the big exception.

Validity is by route, not train type. So if a route is covered by a pass, than all trains, regardless of the acronym attached to it are covered.
Similarly you can take any train between eg. Interlaken and Bern, wether IC, EC, R, or ICE...

The "Luzern Interlaken Express" is a standard train service. Used by people to get around on their every day business. You may see people on it that take it every day, to go to school or to work.

The PE is just a ploy to get tourists to pay more for a reservation...

Ok, thanks for confirming this. It's very confusing as the SBB site uses "PE" as the prefix for the train and when I googled PE, one website said these aren't covered by the BO pass. I suppose they meant the reserved seat isn't covered.

I'm finding the whole Swiss train pass issue confusing. I was going to buy the Swiss Travel pass but that doesn't cover many of the BO sections and that's the only region I'm going to on this trip.

Thanks, WengenK. I just saw your post. I didn't know that about the prefixes not mattering for the pass.
