We are traveling by train only in Switzerland. We arrive in Geneva on Sept 18, and then go to Lausanne for the night. We have already booked lodging at two places in Lausanne for the night, and need to decide which to keep. Chateau D'Ouchy ($406) or Hotel des Voyageurs Boutique ($225). Hotel des Voyageurs is a 10 minute walk from the train station. The next morning we must be in Montreux for the 10 am Chocolate Train. It seems like it is more wise to stay there, but it is hard to pass up a night spent in a castle! We do have a castle stay planned later at Chateau Gutsch. What are your thoughts about this decision? Thank you in advance.
Chateau d'Ouchy is in a lovely area right on Lake Geneva with beautiful views. We could even see the Matterhorn in the distance on a clear day from the outdoor restaurant. The food is very good and you would be near the Promenade for nice walks along the lake. It is easy to take the public transportation line from the hotel up to the train station.
We stayed at Chateau D’Ouchy for several nights when we were in Lausanne last fall. It is now part of the Hyatt Hotel chain as an FYI. It’s a very nice hotel, good location, but it’s not like staying in a castle. Inside is renovated and looks like a hotel. The staircase was pretty neat. Our room was spacious and looked over the lake. If you are member of their rewards program breakfast which was very good was free. For one night - I wouldn’t spend the extra $$. If you need to be in Montreaux the next morning - I would stay there. We enjoyed spending an afternoon there after visiting castle Chillon.
