we are planning a 10 day trip to Switzerland So far we booked 2 nights in Lucerne, then have a 2 night gap and 4 nights in Wengen
After Lucerne we want to visit the Chillon castle and maybe see some of Bern, although we'd be getting to Bern on a Monday when museums are closed. Where would be the best place to stay for that? Day trip from Bern or somewhere else? Stay in Montreux or Lausanne for 2 nights?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts
Last year I stayed at the 7e Art b&b in Vevey, just up the hill from Montreux. It's in a quiet residential area and is a short walk to the bus stop into town. You get a free Riviera Card which gives you free use of local trains and buses.
mapara,
I suppose where to stay depends on your preferences. I stayed in Lausanne and found that to be a convenient location for touring that area. For visiting Chateau de Chillon, I'd suggest taking the magnificent old Paddlewheel Steamers in one direction and return to Lausanne by train. You'll board those in the waterfront area of Lausanne (Ouchy) and there's a ticket office there.
There are no food services at the Chateau (except for vending machines), so if you're going to be visiting over lunch time I'd suggest packing along some food. As I recall, there were two restaurants on the boats. One was rather posh and above my budget while the other just sold pre-packaged sandwiches and items like that.
