Lodging (and other recommendations) in Wengen or Lauterbrunnen

My wife and I will be visiting this region of Switzerland for a just couple of days in late May 2020. (We're coming from Lucerne, headed to Basel.) Looking for advice regarding lodging and "must sees." From what I have read, staying in either Wengen or Lauterbrunnen are both good options, and I'm sure there are pros and cons with each location. Would appreciate any advice people with experience in the area may have. Our preference is a small boutique hotel rated 4*. Thanks in advance for the help!

I’ve only ever stayed in Mürren, but I can tell you that how you plan to spend your time once you are there makes a difference. If you are a hiker, then staying up above the valley may be preferable. If you like shopping, restaurants, and lots of people around, down in the valley may make sense.

Think about what you want to do while there.

Murren and Wengen are both excellent options and are both high up in the alps in car-free villages. Lauterbrunnen is beautiful, too, down in the valley. Wengen is larger than Murren with more hotels, restaurants and shops, but Murren is more of a peaceful hamlet but still has hotels, restaurants and a few shops. You won’t regret your time in the area. There’s nothing like it.

If you want a 4-star hotel, that points to Wengen, where there are several to choose from: Sunstar, Caprice, Beausite, and others. Mürren has one hotel with 4 stars ( Hotel Eiger), but Lauterbrunnen has none.

We have stayed three times in May at the Alpenrose in Wengen and loved it. I don't remember how many stars it has but it is very nice and we had a balcony room with great views.

Hopping on this thread to ask if anyone has stayed at the Victoria- Lauberhorn in Wengen?
