Hello, Does anyone know how long a person is allowed to rent locker space for luggage storage at the train station in Lucerne? We will be staying an an apartment that is on the 3rd floor (without elevator), so, if possible, we would like to store our luggage for the duration of our 2 day stay. I also wanted to find out how much this locker rental is. Thank you for any information you might have on these questions. Linda
The max duration is 72-96 hour depending on the type of locker. And price is according to size, 5-9 CHF per day if I remember correctly, cash only for the older lockers (but I expect Luzern station to have newer lockers that take cards).
But you might also just want to use the luggage forwarding service to your next destination after Luzern (if it is in Switzerland). Never used it myself, but have a look here: https://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/before-your-journey/luggage/luggage/station-to-station.html
Basically, if you leave luggage on day 1, it will be available at your next destination on day 3.
Here is some general info. on the lockers:

Under rental period, it states you can rent a blue locker for a max of 72 hours and a new locker for a max of 96 hours.
Here is the locker info. specific to the Luzern train station:

You can also find info. on prices from the above links.

If you open the “Lockers” side, and enter Luzern for the station, you will see the prices (for the first 6 hours),and locker sizes, but I did not see the time limit. In my experience with Swiss lockers, that is 72 hours, but it may have changed.
It may be that the Luggage Storage option would work better, assuming the counter is open when you need to deposit and pick up your luggage. There is not a limit on time—-you can leave bags there for a month, or even a year. The daily rate is 12 CHF per bag.
Edit—-posting at the same time as others!
This is SO helpful! Thanks a million!
Linda,
Unless the landlord of your apartment has translated the European wordage to American you may find you have to walk up one floor more than you expect. In Switzerland and Europe the buildings are counted as ground floor where you walk in, and then the first one up is the first floor, and so on. So Swiss 3rd floor is equivalent to US 4th floor.
I've seen you asking about the luggage storage here and Naples and Venice. That makes me wonder if you plan to carry more stuff in your luggage than you actually need. A great secret to rail travel is to travel light. Do laundry as you go and don't worry about using clothes a bit more than you might be used to. If you can do without something for several days while it is in storage, do you really need it?
Lots of good knowledge is available on these forums and in Rick Steves online advice to help you pack lighter.
I hope that helps.
By the way, for Luzern/Lucerne I agree with the answers above.

What was the Luzern/Lucerne question?
the lockers
Ah, I though I missed a question about Lucerne vs Luzern. Thank you.
Nope, just helps a new traveller recognise signs in the native language whilst still seeing the English language word they expect.
