Lavaux Wineries

Hey,

My wife and I will be in Lavaux (staying at Hotel Prealpina in Chexbres) on Monday May 28. I was wondering about others’ experiences visiting wineries and doing tastings in the area. Is it neccessary to contact the wineries beforehand? Which wineries or areas do you recommend? Any other tips? Any recommendations for other things to do in the area?

Thank you!
Brandon

My wife and mother-in-law just went on a bike ride through parts of the Lavaux Winery and had a great time. They hired a private guide who arranged bike rentals and then guided them to the various wineries.

Wineries in this region require appointments to tour and/or taste. There are a couple of collectives up in Valais but I'm not aware of any right in the Lavaux vineyards.
There is plenty to do in the area! Chateau Chillon, Vevey, Lausanne, Geneva, CERN, Martigny, Sion, and the St. Bernard Pass. Not sure how long you are staying but there is a ton to do around the area! Way more than my list!

I recently visited the first winery that I saw there on Sam's link (also http://www.jomini-vins.ch/mur-blanc/), as arranged by the tourist board. Our small group had a nice, low-key visit and tasting with the third-generation winemaker and his wife. Definitely necessary to book or to check whether they have a weekend open day, as they're often busy with the rest of the process. If not this one, then try another.
