Grusstig! We will be staying in Geneva. Where is the best place to catch the train des vignes that rolls thru the Lavaux vineyards?
We have 2 days to do Vevey, Lausanne and Montreal..yikes! Would go back to Geneva both nights ..using a Swiss train pass.
Any itinerary tips are so appreciated. I know I want to do the Castle de Chillon and Charlie Chaplin and the OLympic museum.
Thanks.
From Geneva Cornevin (main station) to Vevey, then the S-7 (Train des Vignes) to Puidoux-Chexbres. Trains from Vevey are every hour at 9 past the hour.

Thanks Sam so much for the link.
Geneva is a commuter city for us, so it's an easy trip back and forth. You can take the vineyard train, but there are other options as well. I usually take the train to Lutry from Montreux along the lake, exit and walk to Vevey through the vineyards. You would take the direct train from Geneva to Lutry, which all run throughout the day. You can shorten your walk along the way and take a train to Vevey or Montreux to see Chateau Chillon or Charlie Chaplin museum. Here's a link which will give you the detailed directions from the train and the walking routes. The vineyard walk is one I never tire of.
If it's a nice day when you visit Chateau Chillon, exit at the Montreux Marche and take the footpath along the water. You can also take the boat from Vevey to Chateau Chillion, which I would recommend as well.
Question and thank you. I like the shorter walk A - C. Where can I catch it if coming from Vevey and then where do I get on the train to go back to Lausanne?
If you select see this route on larger map, it offers the details I think you are looking for.
Looks to me like you could take the train from Vevey to Bossiere by changing trains at Puidoux-Chexbres. Trains from Vevey at 9 past the hour.
From Bossiere, walk down the road to get to Point A of the short trail in the map. Point C will put near Lutry station where you can get a train back to Lausanne. Two trains every hour at 15 and 50 past the hour.
It's not difficult to get to the vineyards. If you are coming from Geneva and it's a nice day, I would take the main train to Lutry in the morning, follow the map to the footpath into the vineyards, walk as far as you want. You can either walk up and take the Chexbres train to Vevey, or down and take the train from Cully or a bit further from Saint-Saphorin or one of the other small towns. I usually take the train to Lutry from Montreux and walk the vineyards back to Vevey, which I think is approx 11 km.
Thanks. Are there two train lines? A local train from Geneva that stops at more towns and a faster train line?
Between Lausanne and Vevey, there are two, one right along the lake, and a parallel one higher up on the slope. They both have express, regional, and local trains running on them. Obviously, express trains don't stop at charming little villages.
Here's a picture which shows the train and vineyard. It gives you an idea of what to expect.
