Lauterbrunnen Valley, Alp cheese, sawmill

We will be spending most of our June trip in Gimmelwald. The episode from season 2 shows a woman making cheese, and a small water powered sawmill. Does anyone know if these are in the vicinity of Gimmelwald, or in another area. Thank you. Cory

The cheese making is at Winteregg, a couple miles North of Murren. The train from Grutschalp stops there, or you can walk from either Grutschalp or Murren (great walk!).

From RR tracks at Winteregg, walk up the hill (west, away from the restaurant) and slightly to your right on the main Grutschalp to Murren path is the cheese factory. It is not that well signed, but look for a porch with big picture windows right next to that main path from Grutschalp. There's usually a self-serve fridge on that porch to buy cheese or yogurt. Try to get there in the morning to see the cheese being made.

You can see all these towns plus Gimmelwald on this map:

Getting to the saw mill is not easy, at least the one I visited near Gimmelwald. If you walk the Eschen road maybe 1/2 km out of town, there is a hard-to-notice trail on the left leading down into the valley. Eventually it leads to water powered the saw mill. Look at the area on Google Maps and you can barely make out a clearing which is the mill. It's certainly worth asking the locals to be sure.
