Right before the train station there is a short bridge. The tracks run up an embankment right before that. That embankment had been of some concern to the railway, as it showed signs of becoming unstable. The railway had planned to take care of it during the off season, and in the mean time installed special instruments to keep an eye on it.

But the frequent rain we had this summer caused the solidity of the embankment to deteriorate faster than expected. So two weeks ago the instrumentation that was in place triggered an alarm, showing to much movement, and the railways had to stop operating, in the middle of the day no less. Getting bus replacement set up at such short notice was quite the scramble.

And emergency repairs were immediately started. They should indeed be finished tomorrow. Next weekend is Jungfrau Marathon, and then the railway must run.
