I know a lot of posts have indicated Murren is the place to go. What about Wengen? How do you get there from Lauterbrunnen? Is it the same transportation in Lauterbrunnen that you take to get to Murren; just another stop? Or... Change to a different train, gondola or cable car then you would use if you are going to Murren?
Kate,
It’s very easy! From Lauterbrunnen station, take the Wengernalpbahn train up the mountain to Wengen. It’s on the opposite side of the valley from Mürren. Lauterbrunnen is the transportation hub for that area.
Just change trains in Lauterbrunnen.
Look at the last page of this website, which is a helpful map of the area:

" Is it the same transportation in Lauterbrunnen that you take to get to Murren; just another stop?"
No - it's a different line.
"Or... Change to a different train, gondola or cable car then you would use if you are going to Murren? "
Yes.
From Lauterbrunnen to Muerren, you take the cable car up to Gruetschalp, then the train to Muerren BLM. Or, a longer way is to take the bus to Stechelberg, then the cable car up to Muerren Schilthornbahn.
From Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, you take the train (a rack railway) up to Wengen.
I know that before you've been there, these directions are a bit confusing - the unfamiliar Swiss-German place names, the different modes of transit, the transfers. When you're actually there, it's very easy. You can't go through the mountains here (no tunnels) - only up, down, or around them. Once you're there and can actually see the mountains, as well as the giant maps at every interchange point, it's much clearer. Plus, you can always ask for help (everyone's going the same ways).
Mürren and Wengen are on opposite sides of the valley, above Luterbrunnen in the valley bottom.
From Lauterbrunnen you either go up one side of the valley to the other. Direct transport between Mürren and Wengen requires wings.
