Lauterbrunnen to Lucern then Rigi or Piltaus in one day? Doable? Too much?

Hello

We are staying 7 night in Lauterbrunnen. I am thinking of going to Lucern one day (free with the BO card) but would it be too much to also go to Rigi or Pilatus that same day?

Is that realistic if we leave Lauterbrunnen very early ? :)

Thanks!

Pilatus is actually on the way. So you could do Lauterbrunnen - Alpnachstadt - Pilatus - Kriens - Luzern...

Oh ok. Love that!

But is that too much for 1 day?
I know we won't see much of Lucern of course but is that a good idea to do both in the same day? :)

thanks

Kind of depends on what you're doing the day before and after, because you'll need a rest day around a long day, IMHO. There's a bit of walking at each to reach the summits- not a crazy lot, but uphill steps at Pilatus and uphill at Rigi. Are you using one of the travel passes? Rigi is free with the STP, Pilatus is discounted.
Mt Stanserhorn does not get much mention here, but it's delightful, using an open air Cabrio cable car, and is completely covered by the STP. It's also only 45 minutes from the Lucerne train station to the summit. This is a great sunset outing.
There are no bad decisions, because this is Switzerland! Safe travels!

Wow i do not know this third option. Thanks a lot. I will definitely take a look at it! We will only have the Berner Oberland pass and the Half fare card. Not sure which activities will thus be the cheapest with these 2 cards.

This day to Lucern + 1 mountain is actually our day off from hiking lollll!

Oh I see pictures of the Stanserhorn cable car and I kept seeing pictures of it on my FB (l'algorithme!) What a coïncidence! I did not know it was close to Lucern!

MY guess is you will have seen several mountain tops during your trip. Consider a boat ride to Giessbach Falls and train from Brienz to Aareschlucht as something different and a good foul weather day option.

Yes we are right! We are doing the trek Haute Route and many hikes around Zermatt and Lauterbrunnen. Maybe we could simply go to Lucern and then take the boat from Brienz to Interlaken on your way back. I thought of doing it another (rest) day but you make me think about that! Could be an easy option :) thanks!

Woww by train it takes 2h24 hour to to go Lucern from Lauterbrunnen. 5h total. Plus adding Rigi or Pilatus. Long day!

Add in the time to transit from hotel to train station, arriving a little early to find your track, arriving in the new location, getting oriented, waiting for the next boat , etc, and it does become a long day, not to mention nutrition stops.

My own personal opinion is that the mountains never get old. If there's a summit, and the weather is clear, I go for it. I never get tired of the summits, as each has their own personality. And the mountain weather is so fickle, you can't just assume you have all the next week for mountain scenery. It could rain or become foggy. If there's weather is good today , go for it.

Have a great time!

Perhaps let the weather decide- if it's a spectacular day, go to Rigi. If it's clouded in, explore Lucerne.....
