When we end our 3-day stay in Lauterbrunnen on the last Friday in June, we go by train to Basel to catch our river cruise. We have one full day to get to Basel. I'd like the most scenic, interesting way to go. We will have a Swiss Travel Pass, and we see it covers boats on Lake Thun. Or, should we stop in Bern and have leisurely dinner in the Old Town? Or is there another good place to linger and enjoy?
Your ideas will be most helpful. Thanks.
I'd take the "Golden Pass" scenic train from Interlaken to Luzern and spend the day there. Details on the Golden Pass can be found here: www.goldenpass.ch/en
Luzern is a beautiful town which is well worth a day of sightseeing. Rick has a nice walking tour in his Swizterland guidebook which takes you by most of the big sites. You can explore the old town, take a boat cruise on lake Luzern and head to Basel after dinner. (There are trains every half-hour bertween Luzern and Basel, taking about an hour).
