Lauterbrunnen in mid April

Hi,
We are booked at the Hotel Silberhorn in mid-April 2026 for three nights. Can anyone who has been there at that time tell me if the trains/cable cars etc. will be open then? It is the only time we can be there on this trip. I understand weather can be unpredictable, but trying to find out what will be open vs closed.

Thanks so much!

We went in May 2024 and most of the lifts were open including to the Schilthorn. Two lifts we planned on using were not open - the Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp lift -disappointed about that since we were planning on doing the Grutschalp to Winteregg walk. The other lift that wasn't open was the Wengen to Mannlichen. Disappointing because we wanted to take the Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg hike. But you can also get Kleine Scheidegg by train. So guessing you will run into some closures but still will have plenty of things to do at that time of the year.

April is considerably more off season than May. May is when things begin to wake up. I have been very happy there in late May.

One year recently in mid April I stopped off at Mürren on the way to Italy for a week on the lakes, there was plenty of snow in Mürren. about 4 feet in some places, and some in Lauterbrunnen but significantly less.

I was astonished both by how many coach trips were there, but how so many were under dressed for the weather and standing shivering.

Nigel! It's Jay from the Italy forum....

My wife & cousins think I'm nuts for wanting to go from 'winter to winter', by going to Lauterbrunnen in March 2027. We'll have been chilling for a couple weeks in Rome, and want someplace different from there. I think this would be perfect. We'd fly from Roma Fiumicino to Zurich, then train down to Interlaken.

What's the word on skier volume in March? We are decidedly not skiers. Is it all dependent on how much snow, or is always snowy? And...is it walkable for 60-somethings in March? So many questions. Looking at Hotel Oberland in Lauterbrunnen for maybe 3 nights, and would make daytrips (cogwheel train?) to Murren, Wengen & Gimmelwald. Then from Interlaken we would take the Golden Pass scenic route to Montreux for a couple days, then fly home out of Geneva.

I think this sounds perfectly sane!
