Anyone have any experience with a doctor or urgent care in Lauterbrunnen Valley?
My husband will need stitches removed while we are there.
What can first-time European travelers expect? Do we need an appt, or would it be “walk-in” like here? How expensive is it?
Best source for guidance is the American Embassy website in any country, The Embassy is in Bern. List of providers here. You might have to go to Interlaken or even Bern.
I don't have the answer to your question, but I'm wondering if your husband has a choice of dissolvable/ absorbable stitches that don't need to be removed. I recently had gum surgery with these types of stitches, and they just disintegrated on their own.
My health insurance includes a program called, "Assist America". You could check to see if you have a similar program. (If you do, make a copy of the information for your travel) They help with finding doctors among other things. Since Lauterbrunnen is a ski area, I would think they'd have urgent care within the region if not a more intensive facilty.
Is this during your RS tour? If so your guide might know of or be able to assist you in finding a local doctor or clinic.
If there’s nothing local, a google search turns up a walk in clinic in Interlaken. Looks to be close to the Interlaken west train station. Open the link in google chrome for translation.
eurostacy,
Your best bet is probably in Interlaken, which is a 20 minute train ride from Lauterbrunnen. This may be of help.....

There's also a walk in clinic, and their website states....
"With the opening of the Walk-in-Clinic, since the beginning of May 2019, the fmi AG hospitals have been actively addressing the growing shortage of family doctors and the great need of the local population in the catchment area. People with health problems who do not have or find a family doctor will have quick and easy access to healthcare. The Walk-in-Clinic is also open to domestic and foreign tourists and day visitors as a medical contact point. The Walk-in-Clinic does not see itself as a competitor, but as a supplement to the family doctors and the existing medical offer in the region."
The first place to go for any health issues (at least those not serious enough to need an ambulance) is the nearest Pharmacie. They all have a Green cross as a sign. A pharmacist is a trained health professional, they are capable of doing a first assesment, giving first aid and selling some products which you cannot buy in a supermarket. They can then give you addresses of doctors if needed. Some are even co-sited with doctors.
Any pharmacie employee in a tourist place like Lauterbrunnen will speak English.
I googled "Pharmacie in Lauterbrunnen" and got a long list, though I suspect some are not actually in Lauterbrunnen:
