We are spending a week this month with our grandchildren (7&9) in Lausanne. We are looking for suggestions on day trips in and around Lausanne. We can drive or take the train. Can you help?
Some excellent mountain trips we did last October include Rochers de Naye and Les Pleiades. Also, the lakeside at Vevey is delightful.
Chillon castle near Montreux will be a hit with the kids and adults alike. However, lots of stairs, so beware, it is a fairly strenuous visit.
Loved the Chillon castle. Has anyone gone to the Bex Salt Mines? I will check out Rochers de Naye.
I have two kids around the same ages, and we stayed in Lausanne for a week in August. In addition to the day trips already mentioned, my kids enjoyed Evian-les-Bains (by boat), Murten (by train), and the Cailler chocolate factory in Broc (by train, but car would be faster). We also stopped in Bern on the way to Lausanne, but it could easily be done as a day trip. In Bern, we spent most of our time on Gurten, a nearby mountain you reach via funicular.
Lausanne has several great playgrounds, including one in Ouchy near the CGN boat docks and one near the botanical garden (kind of between the train station and Ouchy). We saved the Olympic Museum for the only rainy day of our trip, and my older kid really enjoyed that (the younger one not so much).
Not sure if you will have a Swiss Travel Pass, but most everything I mentioned is included (the Gurten funicular is discounted but not free).
Cailler chocolate tour in Broc-Fabrique and cheese making in Gruyeres.
